Inquiry mode vs Checkout mode

3 min read

What they do

  • Inquiry mode — products are listed but there's no Add-to-cart button. Customers click an "Inquire" button that opens a contact form. The lead lands in your inbox; you reply with a quote.
  • Checkout mode — full e-commerce. Customers add to cart, check out via Stripe, you ship the order.

Why pick inquiry?

  • You haven't set up Stripe yet.
  • Your products vary in price (custom builds, used carts) and you want to quote per-customer.
  • You don't ship — pickup or delivery only.
  • You're testing demand before committing to full e-commerce ops.

Why pick checkout?

  • You sell parts/accessories at fixed prices.
  • You're set up to ship.
  • You want to be able to take payment without a sales conversation.

Switching

Settings → Modules — flip Store mode between Inquiry and Checkout. The change is instant. Existing orders aren't affected; only NEW visitor flows change.

Mixed approach (advanced)

You can run inquiry-mode while building up parts inventory, then switch to checkout once you have stock + Stripe set up. Past inquiry leads stay in your inbox.
