Best for
If you sell golf carts, choose Powerdash.
DX1works fine for the markets it was built for. Yours probably isn't one of them.

What is DX1?

DX1 is a powersports DMS that's been around since 2010-ish. Constellation Software bought them in 2020. They have a deep feature set and a customer base of motorcycle, ATV, and snowmobile dealers. Golf cart support exists but it isn't where they put the engineering hours.

Customer base: Not published. Industry estimates put it around 2,000 powersports dealers.

Why golf cart dealers switch from DX1

The patterns that come up over and over in our calls with new customers leaving DX1:

1
The data model assumes you sell motorcycles
DX1's inventory schema is built around VIN, registration, and titling workflows. Golf cart dealers spend a lot of time figuring out which form fields to ignore. We've heard 'the fields don't fit our inventory' more times than we can count.
2
It looks like 2014
There's been a UI refresh or two, but the bones are old. Common tasks take more clicks than they should. Mobile is usable but not great. If your team is younger than 30, they'll complain about it.
3
Constellation's playbook means yearly price hikes
Constellation Software is a serial acquirer of niche B2B software. After acquisition, prices typically tick up 8 to 15 percent per year, with new features coming out slowly. Several DX1 customers have told us their renewal in 2024 was 12 percent higher than 2023.
4
Rentals aren't really a thing
DX1 has no first-class rental module. If rentals are a real revenue line for you (and for most golf cart dealers, they are), you're stuck managing them in Excel or paying for a third-party rental tool that doesn't talk to DX1.

Where DX1 falls short for golf cart dealers

  • Schema designed for motorcycles. Golf cart fields get bolted on.
  • Constellation ownership means predictable price increases.
  • Storefront is functional but old. Modern dealers feel it.
  • Rentals aren't really supported. You'll layer on another tool.
  • Implementation usually runs 2 to 4 weeks and includes a paid project plan.

Where Powerdash wins vs DX1

  • Inventory fields built for golf carts: lift, street-legal, battery chemistry, motor type, passenger count.
  • Rentals are first-class. Calendar conflicts, deposit math, delivery fees, all native.
  • Flat pricing. No annual increases. What you pay this month is what you'll pay next year.
  • Self-serve setup. No 6-week onboarding.
  • Storefronts that score 95+ on PageSpeed.

Most dealers move off DX1 in an afternoon

Inventory and customer imports run in about 30 to 60 minutes. Storefront customization takes another hour or two. Then you flip DNS and DX1 is done. We help with the migration for free in the first 30 days of your trial.

Frequently asked questions

What does DX1 cost per month?

DX1 won't tell you on their site. Dealers report monthly prices between $300 and $1,800 depending on what you bundle. Expect 8-15% annual increases under Constellation's ownership.

Does DX1 handle rentals?

Not really. You can shoehorn it in, but there's no real rental module. Powerdash has daily/weekly rates, deposit tracking, delivery fees, and conflict detection built in.

Can I import my DX1 inventory?

Yes. DX1 supports CSV export. We import the standard fields plus handle the golf-cart-specific transforms (battery, lift, street-legal flag, etc.) automatically.

Is Powerdash a real DMS, or just a website?

Real DMS. Inventory, leads, deals, customers, orders, payments, reporting. The storefront is the public face of all that data, not a separate product.

DX1 had my OEM feed running. Do you?

Most likely yes. Send us the spec or the contact at the OEM. We add new feeds at no charge.
